Lake Königssee
Surrounded by towering rock cliffs, the lake - emerald green and silent - is set in one of the most impressive landscapes in Germany. It is perhaps for this reason that so many visitors come to Königssee year after year. This narrow, fjord-like lake is 8 kms long (5 miles), up to 1 km wide (3/4 mile) and lies 602 meters (2,000ft) above sea level. With a maximum depth of 190 meters (650 ft), Lake Königssee retains its cold temperature even during the hottest time of the year.
