When in Bavaria, a 'Heimatabend' should not be missed. Here you experience the classic clichés of what
the Bavarians are all about: massive beer-drinking, rowdy sing-alongs to live music and the men's thigh-slapping, heel-whacking dances (Shuhplattler).
During the summer months, the Bräustüberl (Tel.: +49(0)8652/976724) in Berchtesgaden (at the brewery), along with several restaurants and inns, offer Bavarian shows once a week (generally Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays).
Information can be obtained from the
tourist info centers and from the
events calendar (printed in German only).
Throughout the summer several restaurants offer live music, usually a zither player, to their dinner guests. A couple of restaurants (e.g. Zum Singenden Wirt in Ramsau) even boast dance music (seniors-style) and a dance floor.
Ask for detailed information at the
tourist info centers. An
events calendar is published monthly, but appears only in German.
