Folklore Associations' Annual Event
Trachtenfest, 2nd Sunday in July: At 6:00 in the morning, the Christmas shooters start the day off with a bang (or several).

Berchtesgaden has numerous local folklore associations (17 Christmas shooter's clubs and 9 folkloric associations), some of which were founded around the turn of the century. The members, dedicated to the preservation of customs and traditions, have held this annual event since 1950.
Members of these clubs include, on the one hand, those whose aim it is to preserve local dress, dance, music and culture, on the other, the so-called Christmas shooters, who not only make noise at Christmas but at other times of the year.
A grand parade starts at 10:00 at the Finanzamt, pauses for Mass at the collegiate church, and ends up at the… brewery. A grand folklore evening is habitually held at the Kur- und Kongresshaus (convention center) on the Thursday evening preceding the event.
